Breakfast (inclusive in room price): a self-serve breakfast is available up to 9.30am in the guest lounge/dining room overlooking the harbour. Standard is cereals, fruit, yoghurts, juice, toast with a selection of jams and marmalades, tea/coffee.
Bacon and egg is available sometimes, as well as cheese, meats and boiled eggs to order.
Our B&B is friendly, quirky, comfortable and has all the amenities of a guest house. It is not ultra modern – the house is 165 years’ old – with décor and furniture to suit. We try to offer good value at the lower end of the market. If you live in a modern house and have a high standard of living, our place probably would not suit you. It is geared to the more budget conscious traveller who wants value, comfort and amenities.
All our sea-view double rooms have either private facilities i.e. a shower in the room and your own private toilet 4 steps across the landing, or en-suite facilities (the price per night varies by about £10 pr pn). The rooms also offer tea/coffee trays, free-view television, WiFi, alarm clock radios, hairdryers and towels. We should have fibre optic broadband by March 2015 – BT have promised this – we will see if they deliver on time!
Our family suites can sleep 2/3/4 people they have a front double room, a rear twin room and an ensuite shower/toilet/basin. They can be booked as a double, a twin, or combinations of adults and children up to 4.
We aim to make your holiday as pleasant as we possibly can by offering to help in any way that is necessary for you to achieve this. Being a frequent traveler myself, I appreciate how important a friendly and helpful face is at the Bed and Breakfast.
Harbour View Guest House, Newlyn, Penzance is a traditional Cornish mid terrace house built about 1850 it has in its’ time been a bootmaker’s shop, a post office, an hotel, a restaurant and is now a guest house (for the past 18 years).
It is situated directly on the harbourside of the vibrant commercial fishing harbour of Newlyn in an elevated position with outstanding sea/harbour views in all directions. If water, walking and fishing is your thing, then this is the place to come. Where else can you sit in your room and have 180 degrees of sea and harbour in front of you to watch? Yet you are close to restaurants, pubs and shops the nearest pub with food is 4 doors away.
Because we are on a commercial harbour, and Newlyn is a fishing community, some of the pubs are pretty basic. We do have 2 restaurants locally with accredited chefs.
The lifeboat departs from here gig racing boats launch for practice (traditional Cornish wooden boats), the beam trawlers and crabbers are in and out all the time. The marina below us berths dozens of smaller fishing boats which go out early on a daily basis.
Newlyn is England’s largest commercial fishing port. You can watch the fish being landed on the quay 24 hours a day, and sold in the fish market early morning. It is not a tourist harbour teaming with tourists, pavement cafes, and gift shops. It is a Cornish working community in the raw, but unspoilt by commercialism.
It was also the home of the historic Newlyn painting School. Many of our guests attend the current Newlyn Art School close to us www.newlynartschool.co.uk
The village is Newlyn is 300 yards down the hill. It has a wonderfully friendly community spirit with plenty of colourful characters, shops, pubs and cafes.
